Ignite Your Passion for Creativity
Urban Art Binge (UAB) is an Artist-Run-Initiative created with the aim of providing a platform for accessing creative inspiration in everyday life for everybody.
To this end, UAB is currently running a series of workshops inspired by the urban and natural environment, that document the idea of 'place'. The workshops seek to connect, teach and build your essential skills around drawing while also strengthening the voice of vibrant, creative communities. Initially established in Brisbane, Australia, in 2012, As of 2016 The Urban Art Binge is now hosting workshops and events mainly throughout Scotland, UK. Urban Art Binge offers unique classes, workshops and events with tutors who are passionate about art. Our tutors each have personal strengths in painting and drawing and bring their individual style and philosophy to each class. For detailed current workshop information and to enrol in a course go here. The foundation of the classes are based on personal experiences of the challenges facing most creatives in the development of their work. How to deal with those dis-empowering conversations about our ability and talent; how to make more time for the creation of artwork or make it more regularly; how to approach a creative project that is about to stretch you big time. UAB does this through teaching practical creative skills and opening participants up to new ways of creating and approaching the process of art-making thereby tapping into a greater creative consciousness. In 2012 the project saw over 40 participants take part and over 20 sketch-sites visited. The end of the year culminated in an exhibition of the work created by participants providing both an opportunity for artists to show their work and also for the wider creative community to come together in celebration and acknowledgment. Gorged on Creativity...For Now our inaugural exhibition opened on the 7th December 2012 at Juggler's Art Space. Sketching & drawing sessions are held at various locations around Edinburgh and Fife. The full sketch program is available at the start of each block and participants are invited to car-pool where possible. Sites are chosen for their historic and aesthetic qualities and participants are given a sketching Binge Bag with essential drawing goodies at the beginning of the block to start them off. Site sketching is a particularly rewarding pursuit although many of us find ourselves not doing it as often as we might like to. A playful, curious approach is encouraged. These on-site drawing classes offer the opportunity to build up a general comfort level in drawing in public as well as provide a weekly supportive community with which to work. The level of achievement by week 4 of the sketching blocks is measurably significant with many bingers finding a particular strength in drawing they didn't even know they had, such as drawing people or architecture. Some of our bingers have also created groups of their own to keep sketching after the block. UAB Blocks have been the best art sessions I've undertaken. I've loved the weekly real-time sketching sessions in different locations...I've learned heaps from Emily and Jo's unique, and different, talents and strengths. I enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere generated by these women in their enthusiasm for, and commitment to, encouraging each one of us to develop our creative style, both on site and in the studio. Fantastic energy; wonderful people. A real buzz of creativity every week. Thank you so much! CE-S |
